WANDERER

Wanderer, noun, described as someone who travels aimlessly, a traveler.  Being a wanderer is a concept that many want to avoid or tend to misinterpret. Being a wanderer is nothing to be afraid of or shame, it is something that needs to be expressed more. In a world filled with new horizons and endless possibilities, trudging through the deepest forests or diving into the biggest ocean seems like a far-away dream.

In this collection of photos, I wanted to visualize the love that two people share, Leif and their partner Forrest, but how quickly love can tear. This project showcases the highs and lows of relationships; highlighting that even though they have gone far together, there is deception in-between the couple. Leif, a wanderer, starts to feel trapped because of their partner’s inability to leave his home. Forrest, a homebody, begins to shut down and reacts harshly to Leif’s want for more in life.

As the story unfolds, the couple’s relationship dwindles. Leif decides that they must leave the relationship to find true happiness for themselves and leaves notes for Forrest to find. In the final note, Leif writes “And leave the Forrest of our past behind me,” a last goodbye, and play on words, to Forrest and their former life surrounded by the forest. The final image is of Leif, making a wish for new beginnings.

I wanted to create a story that many could relate to, the feeling of being stuck and unhappy with your surroundings. I wanted others to feel safe and understood, but I also wanted to create an understanding of being a wanderer. A wanderer is not one who is lost, but one who has much to find.
